What’s the difference between being a member and being a sharer?
Members of Stearns Farm pay annual dues of $5 per household. These funds are used to support the educational programs of the organization.
Sharers of Stearns Farm pay for a share of our harvest. Funds from the sales of shares are used exclusively to pay for the costs of producing that food.
Are all members also sharers?
No. There are many wonderful people in our community who are members because they support the work that we do, but are not sharers.
Are all sharers also members?
Yes. In order to purchase a share or split a share each household must initiate or renew their membership.
Should people who split a share with an enrolled sharer also be members?
Yes. We require all who receive a split of a share also become members. See splitting shares.
Why is membership important?
Membership dues account for all of the funds raised each year to make our educational programs possible. Membership is a way to be part of the farm community even if you do not purchase a share.
How long does my membership last?
Memberships are for the farm year which begins April 1st and ends on March 31st. The last day to become a member for the current year is September 30th — beginning October 1st, paid memberships are for the following farm year unless you are newly enrolling in the winter share program.
What are the benefits of membership?
Membership benefits include:
- receiving Stone Soup, the Stearns Farm newsletter.
- discounted admission to educational programs.
- participation in farm Spring and Fall festivals
- access to the members area of the website.
- the opportunity to purchase CSA shares (summer and winter, if/when available).
- the opportunity to apply for a seasonal Work-for-Share position.
- receiving and retaining Membership Points (used to allocate shares when demand exceeds supply).
