Stearns Farm will again be offering a fall Fruit Share in partnership with Autumn Hills Orchard in Groton, MA.  This offer is open to all current Members of Stearns Farm CSA.

What?

The fruit share will consist of a 1/2 peck of fresh picked apples or a package equivalent in value of other fruit (plums, pears, grapes).   Autumn Hills will provide information on the varieties offered via their online CSA page as well as tips for cooking/preparation, etc.

When?

Begins the week of September 14th during regular Tuesday and Friday pick-ups (2 – 7pm) and ends the week of October 19th.

Please note:  Fruit share pickup schedules cannot be altered once the distributions begin.

How Much?

Full Share (6 weeks):  $56.00

Alternate-Week Share (3 weeks):  $28.00

How Do I Sign Up?

Sign-up must be done at the farm using the special envelopes provided on the table under the pick-up tent.  Checks (made payable to Stearns Farm CSA) or cash acceptable.  There is no online registration for this share.

 

Peaches

Some of you remember the wonderful peaches that Autumn Hills Orchard sold a la carte at Stearns Farm during August last year.  If the crop is big enough this year, a representative from AHO may be able to come to Stearns again to sell peaches this year during some pickups.  Watch the newsletter for more information.

About Autumn Hills Orchard

Autumn Hills Orchard is a working orchard located in historic Groton, Massachusetts about 35 miles north and west of Framingham.  The farm produces over 25 varieties of apples, plus peaches, pears, plums, grapes and raspberries.  For several years, Autumn HIlls has enjoyed partnering with Stearns Farm and other local CSAs to provide weeklyshares in the late summer/fall.  Share contents vary by week over the season but are primarily apples with other fruit varieties based on availability including: Concord grapes, Italian plums, Bartlett pears and Bosc pears.  Shares may also include the following apple varieties:  Paula Red, Ginger Gold, Macintosh, Cortland, Red Cort, Empire, Golden Delicious, Mutsu, Cox’ Orange Pippin, Spencer, Rhode Island Greening, Macoun, Kendall, SpiGold, Northern Spy, Sun Crisp, Red Delicious, Fuji, or Braeburn.  Autumn Hills’ employs Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques, growing high quality fruit and takes pride in producing fruit for pick your own visitors, wholesale customers and CSA subscribers.  The farm is open September through October for Pick Your Own. CSA customers who visit during that time will receive a special welcome and tour!
