This week we opened a new bed of kale for PYO and we were dismayed to find that some of the plants had been harvested so heavily that they won’t survive. When you harvest any of the braising greens we grow please leave at least five leaves on the plant. These remaining leaves are the plant’s food. It needs them to continue to grow and produce more leaves for us to harvest. The plants pictured here will die.

These picking guidelines apply to all of the braising greens: kale, Swiss chard, or collards.  Thank you for helping us keep these beloved crops healthy and producing for the entire season.
