If you are looking for something different to do with the many vegetables in your share each week, you can’t go wrong by turning to this classic of vegetarian cooking by Madhur Jaffrey. The recipes are drawn from all over Asia and South Asia: Bali, Japan, China, the Middle East, and Jaffrey’s native India. When Madhur Jaffrey’s World-of-the-East Vegetarian Cooking first came out in 1981, it served as an introduction to vegetarian cooking for a lot of Americans, and it continues to serve as a guide today. You may have to acquire some of the spices required, but it will be well worth the effort. Many people say that they can’t find any recipes in this book that are not great.

The author has, over the years, produced more than two dozen cookbooks, but to many this early effort is one of the very best.

As always, the book is available at many branches of the local library system.
