Hello Stearns friends, I have some exciting announcements and a few requests. Please read through for info about the new greenhouse heater, our upcoming plant sale and some unique work-for-share, work-hour, and volunteer opportunities!

Greenhouse Heater Update

Our heater new heater is installed, and it is amazing. Thanks so much for making this possible. Our seed germination has been even, consistent, and strong, and the plants are looking big and healthy!

Plant sale

We are kicking off our bigger and better annual self-serve Plant Sale with a weekend-long event!

  • Saturday, May 19, from 10am to 3pm, we be selling plants, greens, Stearns swag, AND there will be live music and face painting!
  • Sunday May 20th from 10-3, we will be doing Plant Sale only.

We’d love some help on Saturday assisting customers (I’d train you quickly, don’t worry!), directing traffic, and most importantly, face painting!! Are you this person? Let me know. It’ll be a fun day of waking up the farm! Everyone else, mark your calendars and spread the word. I’ll be sending out a list of available varieties and a proper flyer soon. P.S. if you help out, we can count it towards work hours.

Be our tractor repair expert

Mark Piercey, our dedicated tractor repair guy extraordinaire of many years, has started his own business and is making beautiful things. We are in need of a new tractor repair work-for-share to keep on our charming fleet of tractors moving.

We have two antique, gasoline powered Cubs (simple and fun, and pretty easy to work on) and a 33 horsepower diesel-powered Massey Ferguson. We have both realistic expectations and the budget to call in the professionals when necessary, but we need someone reliable for small repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting. If you know someone who might interested in tinkering with tractors, pass along this info! If you are interested, please email me: farmer@stearnsfarmcsa.org.

Help us sell shares

We still have a small number of shares to sell, and about 30 yard signs that need to be displayed for the next couple of months.

If you have a yard on a busy street or in a neighborhood that gets lot of foot traffic, come grab a sign and show your Stearns Farm love by planting one for all to see! There is a pile of signs under the picnic table behind the greenhouse at the farm if you want to come grab one.

If you already have a sign stashed away, put that thing out!

Community Work Days

Finally, I hope that we will see you at one of our Saturday Community Work Days in April! The remaining dates are as follows:

  • April 14, from 9-noon
  • April 21, from 9-noon
  • April 28, from 9-noon

Your time will count towards work hours, and there is no need to sign up. Show up as late as 11am and work until noon sharp, when we break for lunch. For more details, or if you have any questions, please check out our post or email me at farmer@stearnsfarmcsa.org

I’m so excited for it to warm up and to see you all at the farm!

Be well,

Mel
