Stearns Farm has been been awarded a $5,000 grant by the Alice Willard Dorr Foundation to support our food donation program. This award will allow us to expand our contributions of fresh produce from donated shares to organizations in our community that help needy families.
Through a partnership with the Southern Middlesex Opportunity Council, Stearns Farm will donate produce that they can make available directly to their clients. We will also be able to continue our support for Daniel’s Table, a nonprofit in Framingham that provides meals for families who need food, and for the Metrowest Free Medical Clinic, which distributes produce to patients.
“We’re grateful for this grant, which supports our longstanding food donation program,” says Nomi Sofer, president of the Stearns Farm board of directors. “Our mission as a nonprofit farm includes helping to alleviate hunger in our community.” In addition to donating Classic Harvest shares to our partner organizations, Stearns Farm contributes surplus produce to local food pantries.
Previous grants from the Alice Willard Dorr Foundation, have helped Stearns Farm augment sharer contributions to fund equipment and infrastructure, including the storage sheds we use store equipment and supplies, and our farm truck.
