Hello again! After a cold and snowy end to our regular season, the weather has been unusually warm over the last few weeks, making for some very pleasant work days. Kerry and I have been cleaning up the fields and preparing for the first of two Winter Share pick ups. Since I won’t see you all on a regular basis anymore, I just wanted to give a quick update on where 2021 share sales stand, as well as information regarding the Winter Share pick up.

Share Sale Update:

Given the state of the world, as well as a good growing season, our shares are selling at record speed. Our Summer Farmer’s Choice share has sold out and we have now started a waiting list. If you would like your name added to the waiting list, please email Barbara at admin@stearnsfarmcsa.org. Please note, it is unlikely many spots will become available, so I would suggest you consider the following options instead:

  1. Sign up for a Summer Classic Share. Can’t eat that many vegetables? Consider sharing with a neighbor, friend or family member. How you split the share is up to you. You can alternate every other week, or you can meet your friend at the farm and split the share while you are here. It is a lovely way to spend some quality time with a loved one.
  2. Sign up for our Back-to-School Farmer’s Choice share. This share is the same amount of vegetables per week as the Summer Farmer’s Choice share but goes on for 10 weeks instead, beginning late August and running through October.

For those of you who plan on getting another type of share, I recommend you sign up soon! Thank you all for your support so far. I know these are unusual times, but I am happy to see so many people coming back to support the many amazing local food sources and local businesses in our area.

Winter Share Pick Up Info:

Our first Winter Share pick up will be this Saturday, November 21st from 10am-2pm. You will receive your share in the comfort of the greenhouse and there will be maple syrup, honey and t-shirts for sale during the pick up.

We will pack all your delicious vegetables into a box for your convenience. We would LOVE it if you could return your box either by unloading the veggies into your own bags at your car (to prevent crowding in the greenhouse), or by bringing the box back to the farm by December 15th. Please be careful when opening your boxes and try not to tear the tabs to ensure the structural integrity of the box so we can use it for many years. You can place the box just inside the greenhouse door.

Curious about what will be in your box? Here is a list of what will most likely be inside (items are subject to change, exact amounts TBD):

Butternut Squash
Potatoes
Sweet potatoes
Carrots
Daikon radishes
Beets
Onions
Shallots
Leeks
Hakeuri turnips
Cabbage
Popcorn
Fresh Cranberries
Pea Tendrils
Escarole
Lettuce
Parsley

Looking forward to seeing some of you soon!

Until next time,
Ember
