The Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is partnering up with the Town of Acton, the Acton Conservation Trust and Boston Area Gleaners to protect Stonefield Farm with an Agricultural Preservation Restriction. They need our help meeting their goal of (at least) $50,000 to help save this local treasure from development and ensure continued local food production for those facing food insecurity.
Stonefield Farm in South Acton has been an active retail and wholesale provider of vegetables and plants since 1929. The current owners are getting ready to retire and the farm has been a long-time protection priority, containing over 51.5 acres of premium quality farmland, long-standing agricultural operations and both upland and wetland forests.
Boston Area Gleaners, a nonprofit organization focused on preventing food waste and providing food rescue and hunger relief to local communities, has agreed to purchase the property and continue farming the land. The SVT, the Town of Acton and the Acton Conservation Trust are teaming up to secure an Agricultural Preservation Restriction, which will ensure the farm will be safe from development and continue as active agricultural land and as an open space for present and future generations to enjoy.
