A Public Hearing to be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM, located at Framingham City Hall, Blumer Room, 150 Concord Street, Framingham, MA 01702 (available on Zoom), regarding proposed rates, as well as amendments and changes for water and sewer services, including a “Ready to Serve” fixed fee, an updated irrigation rate, revision of the Multi-Unit Dwelling (MUD) Factor policy, and modifications to the tier structure which are proposed to become effective January 1, 2025.
- Ready to Serve Fee – fixed fee, based on meter size
- Irrigation Meter Rates – increase to irrigation rate per 100 cubic feet
- Amend Multi-Unit Dwelling (MUD) Factor Policy – The MUD adjustment to be limited to condominiums only
- Tier Structure change – five-tier structure reduced to four tiers
- Rates – 4% increase
The public may attend the rate hearing in person or remotely on Zoom with the information found here:
Stearns is currently charged the highest rate no matter how much water we use at $15/unit which is categorized as “commercial irrigation”. Ideally, Framingham could have a special Agricultural Rate that would cost much less. If Framingham did this, it would result in an incredible show of support for local agriculture and sustainable food systems and make it possible to continue irrigating in an affordable way.
It would mean a great deal to us if Framingham residents could attend in support of Stearns Farm, as increased water rates would have a direct impact on Stearns and our budget. Even as we move forward with using our well next season, we will still use and rely somewhat on city water.
We hope you can attend and feel free to email me with any follow up questions you may have – farmer@stearnsfarmcsa.org.
