The City of Framingham is currently seeking one full member and two alternate members for the Agricultural Advisory Committee.
The Agricultural Advisory Committee advocates for farming, farm-related businesses, and agricultural interests in the City of Framingham. The Committee supports the City’s policy to conserve, protect, and encourage the maintenance and improvement of agricultural land, both for food production and its natural and ecological value.
The committee’s responsibilities include administering the City’s Right-to-Farm Ordinance (Section 25), advocating for the protection of farmlands, and working with other city departments, boards, and committees on agricultural-related issues.
Members serve as a voice for farming interests, help resolve farm-related problems, and protect natural resources.
Membership Requirements and Term Details:
- The Agricultural Advisory Committee consists of five members appointed by the Mayor, each serving a three-year term. At least three members must be actively engaged in farming, forestry, or related activities.
- Additionally, up to four alternate members may be appointed.
- Members are expected to be involved in advocating for and supporting local agriculture, while promoting the conservation and development of agricultural lands.
- The current committee vacancies are for one full member (term expiring in June 2027) and two alternate members (terms expiring in June 2026 and June 2028).
Committee Roles and Responsibilities:
- Advocate for farming and agricultural interests in Framingham.
- Provide visibility for farming in the City.
- Collaborate with other City departments and Committees on issues affecting agriculture.
- Help resolve farm-related problems or conflicts.
- Protect farmlands and natural resources in alignment with Massachusetts General Laws and the City’s Right-to-Farm Ordinance.
