Stearns Farm CSA

The Harvest Moon is slowly waning and so is another wonderful season at Stearns. Let's see what these last weeks bring:

• See below for a list of what to expect in your share this week.

• Have some squash waiting on the kitchen counter? Ember lists her favorite ways to prepare and enjoy.

• Election Day is less than a month away and Stearns is proud to vote YES on Question 3.

• Don't forget to complete any remaining work hours before this month's deadline.

• A hearty chowder rarely disappoints on a cool autumn evening. In the mood for something lighter? The stuffed cabbage rolls might be just the ticket.

See you next Monday and in the meantime, stay healthy, happy and safe!

The Wonderful World of Winter Squash

The Wonderful World of Winter Squash

As we enter the last month of pick ups, you will see a few varieties of winter squash included in the shares. I thought it would be helpful to go over the varieties and best ways to prepare each one. Winter squash is one of the few items we buy from other farms because it takes up a lot of space to grow and stays in the ground for a long time. Since we only grow on two acres, we’ve realized that it is more sustainable and economical for us to support other local farmers, rather than trying to grow the squash ourselves.

Vote YES on Question 3

Vote YES on Question 3

Stearns Farm, Sudbury Valley Trustees, Transition Framingham, Sustainable Framingham and Daniel’s Table are just some of the organizations that have endorsed the Community Preservation Act (Question 3) for Framingham. We look forward to discovering your own favorite recipes - so share them here to be included in our upcoming Stearns Farm cookbook.

It's finally squash season so take advantage of all different ways to serve these tasty gourds. This week, we're serving up a Corn and Butternut Squash Chowder. The recipe calls for butternut, but why not try it with the honeynut or brulee varieties instead?

And these Napa Cabbage Rolls remind me of gołąbki (Polish stuffed cabbage), a weekend dinner go-to once the temperature drops. The meat stuffing can be easily replaced with tofu or lentils and mushrooms for a vegetarian version.
