Spring is here and with it, longer days, warmer temperatures and plenty of sunshine. The start of the CSA season will be here before long so let's see what's brewing this week:

Happy Spring, Everyone!

I love seeing new life everywhere I look. Killdeer, native birds that nest in pastures, meadows and farmland, have returned to the fields. Their call is very distinct. Once you hear it, you can’t miss it. Since they build their nests on the ground, it’s important to keep an eye out when we are making beds for our first crops of the season. I’ve often had to plant and harvest around them! I can hear peepers chirping from the streams and ponds nearby and the daffodils and crocuses are beginning to bloom at the farm. Our garlic is emerging from the layer of leaves we put down in the fall and the perennial herbs are turning green again.

Eat Your Share

With over 500 entries, our recipe archive is a great way to explore new and classic dishes using our delicious produce.

Another resource for easy and healthy recipes is the Zakim Center Nutrition Videos channel on Youtube. With dozens of guided videos to choose from - everything from using sourdough to incorporating veggies for breakfast - there is something for every taste bud.

This week, it's a surf and salad double feature. The Beet-Cured Salmon Gravlax needs a bit of time to chill but the resulting color and flavor are certainly worth the wait. In a hurry? The Greens with Radishes and Snap Peas salad is ready in 15 minutes and with a crunchy texture and a delicious, tangy dressing, it's sure to please everyone at the table.
