The winter share at Stearns Farm is a way to stay connected to the food we eat as the weather turns colder and the fields prepare for their winter rest. The winter share is distributed in two monthly pickups (November and December) and consists of root vegetables (onions, potatoes, beets, carrots, parsnips, celeriac) cabbage, and winter squash that are grown during the summer and stored in our root cellar, and fresh greens (spinach, kale, collards) which are grown in our greenhouse and tunnels in late fall.
There’s nothing quite like entering the sunny greenhouse on a cold winter’s day, smelling the earthy scent, and seeing a colorful array of vegetables ready for pickup.
When: The winter share consists of two pickups, currently scheduled for 11/14 and 12/12. Dates are somewhat weather dependent, but if dates are moved they will definitely be before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pickup times are 9 am – 1 pm.
How much: $110 plus two work hours to be completed between October 1st and November 21st, 2015. If you can’t do the field work you can buy out the work hours at $10/each.
